Jacobean great house, working rum distillery, steam train
One of only three Jacobean mansions left in the western hemisphere, with a distillery producing excellent aged rum and a restored antique steam train that runs up through the estate to a ridge view of the Scotland District. Easily a half day.
Check train departure times before you drive up — they run to a schedule.
300 years of plantation life, room by room
The only great house on the island with every room open to visitors — mahogany furniture, old carriages, and a courtyard lunch under the trees. Close to the cottage and genuinely interesting rather than dutiful.
Serious rum, made close by
A modern distillery on an old sugar estate, turning out rums that win international awards. Walk the site, taste, and buy bottles you won't easily find at home.
A garden grown inside a collapsed cave
Anthony Hunte planted a gully sinkhole into something close to theatre — palms overhead, classical music in the trees, chairs set where the light is best. Take the rum punch and sit for twenty minutes; that's the point of it.
Sea cave at the northern tip
A sea cave at the island's northern point, looking out through the rock at the Atlantic, with rock pools and sea anemones inside. Guided access only, and only at low tide.
Honestly: the descent is steep, wet and uneven. We don't recommend it for older visitors, anyone unsteady on their feet, or anyone who's had a drink. The clifftop restaurant above has the same view without the climb.
Racehorses in the sea at 7am
Calm water, soft sand, and the island's best-loved morning ritual — racehorses walked into the sea to bathe around seven o'clock. Cuz's Fish Shack does the fish cutter that people fly back for, and Bali Beach Bar handles the rest of the afternoon.
Arrive by 7am for the horses; go back for a cutter at lunch.

Turtles and shipwrecks in swimmable water
A wide, sheltered bay with six wrecks and a resident turtle population close enough to shore that you can snorkel to them. The best single beach on the island for actually seeing something.
Two moods, one beach
Calm and shallow on one side, breezy with a bit of surf on the other, shade trees along the sand, and a food van when you need lunch. Locals' choice on a Sunday.
Swim, then walk to dinner
A gentle stretch of sand right at the top of St Lawrence Gap, which means the swim and the evening can happen in the same place — the Gap is where the south coast eats and drinks.
Long, breezy, uncrowded
A long open stretch that rarely feels busy, with enough breeze for a walk at any hour and enough calm water to swim. Good for a morning that doesn't need a plan.
